Larry Snyder is President and CEO of High Desert Bank -- the only new bank in Bend in over 30 years. Snyder will share his two-year journey to create a new bank, from defining its market niche to developing its state charter to capitalizing the institution. Along the way, Snyder made an important business decision to partner with back-end specialist, Capitol Bancorp, which provides critical but transparent services to the new bank. Snyder has been in the banking business for 31 years in three states. Originally from Colorado, he lived in Alaska for 21 years and Arizona before moving to Bend eight years ago. Brad Raether, Wavetech Engines, Inc.
A classic garage-mechanic inventor, Raether has designed and patented a major improvement on the 300-year old piston engine, allowing linear power to be converted into rotary more efficiently. As someone who has tinkered with engines all his life, Raether says not being formally trained as an engineer helps him think outside the box. Potential applications include autos, airplanes, bikes and industrial engines. Working literally out of his Redmond garage, Raether has raised $100,000 thus far to build a prototype engine and seeks additional capital to commercialize applications of his invention.

Young entrepreneurs compete for the opportunity to present at PubTalk and local business leaders Dan Hobin, Giancarlo Pozzi and Erick Petersen make the final selection of the winning team prior to June’s PubTalk event. The winning team made a presentation on their plans for a Central Oregon shooting range.
